Sports Massage

Sports massage concentrates specifically on problem areas, improving flexibility and reducing adhesions, scar tissue and pain.

Sports massage is not just for the sports person, but for anyone with a musculoskeletal problem, regardless of age or fitness level.  Minor everyday injuries are by far the most common musculoskeletal problems.  These injuries can be extremely painful and may seriously affect a person’s occupation, ability to play sport or quality of life.  Furthermore, if not treated properly at an early stage, a minor injury can sometimes lead to a more serious condition in the long term.  Massage can treat the majority of such minor problems quickly and effectively.

Sports massage is the application of massage and stretch techniques to specific localised areas of muscle and connective tissues.  It is a deeper type of massage designed to get down between muscle fibres, breaking up adhesions or scar tissue that may have built up during injury, repetitive use or sports training.  There are a number of different techniques that can be used during a sports massage treatment such as Neuromuscular Technique, Muscle Energy Technique or Trigger Point Therapy.

In some cases it may be advisable to include a few acupuncture points.  This will be discussed and only carried out if consent is given.  If so, this will be included as part of the sports massage treatment at no additional cost.

A range of stretching techniques are sometimes used alongside the massage, to increase the range of movement and flexibility of a joint.  Postural and exercise advice, and instruction in certain stretching techniques to be used at home help speed up recovery.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massageIf you want to relax, de-stress and feel energised, this is the massage for you.  Why not take the time out to look after yourself, and enjoy an 80-minute body massage.

Massage improves blood circulation and helps remove toxins from the body by improving lymphatic flow. A  Therapeutic Massage is not as deep as a sports massage. The depth of massage and the pressure applied will be adjusted according to your preference.

This type of massage is ideal for reducing aches and pains in tight and knotted muscles.  It is not only highly beneficial to the body, it is also very relaxing and is an ideal treatment for stress and anxiety.
