Occupational Therapy…Change your life!
Helping you to regain your lifestyle and wellbeing

How can Occupational Therapy help you?

Occupational Therapy is all about promoting independence and wellbeing within your lifestyle.  Occupational Therapy acknowledges we are each individuals who value a wide variety of differing lifestyle choices, interests and occupations.

Your initial session of Occupational Therapy will be about finding out what is important to you within your everyday life.  We will then work together to help you achieve your aims.

It may be you find that you feel wonderfully relaxed following a massage, but the benefits of this are short lived because of a hectic schedule.  Occupational Therapy sessions can offer an opportunity to confidentially review your preferred priorities and lifestyle choices.  Having an overarching discussion about areas of your, work and home priorities, routine, daily living, leisure, environment and relationships and how these connect can feel really empowering.  We can work together to help you regain lifestyle balance and satisfaction for you.

Alternatively, you may be experiencing a medical problem, have a physical disability, be suffering from stress or be recovering from a mental health problem.  Occupational Therapists are trained to understand how these difficulties impact on your daily life.  They are also trained to pinpoint the functional problem and help you overcome it, so that you can return to an active and fulfilling life as soon as possible.

One illustration could be, in your office, you notice that you experience back pain.  An Occupational Therapist will look holistically at your environment and how you work within it. They will then make suggestions to adapt the environment, perhaps suggesting alternative seating etc in order to minimise strain on your back.

Occupational Therapists can adapt their skills to whatever the your medical or mental health problem is and to wherever the problem is within your daily life.  They are specialist at providing and recommending equipment and adaptations.

What to expect from an Occupational Therapy Session.

Initial discussions will always begin at the Clinic on the Green.  If you identify a specific problem and would like a visit at home or at work to assess and recommend equipment, this is possible.  Furthermore, if you feel your recovery will be facilitated by accessing community resources together, this too is possible.  The important thing to remember is that you are in control of what happens and that treatment will aim to help you regain your lifestyle and wellbeing at a pace to suit you.
