Matthew Cole

MSc in CBT, BSc(Hons), BA(Hons), RN(MH), DipHE(MHS), Cognitive Psychotherapist, EMDR Consultant, NLP Master Practitioner, Post Grad Certificate in Clinical Supervision, Hypnotherapist.

Matthew has  worked within mental health care for over 13 years, initially working as a mental health nurse then qualifying to work as a community mental health nurse; through this Matthew gained an appreciation of the value and need for affective counselling and therefore successfully undertook a master’s degree in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) at the University of Brighton in 2003.

Matthew is an experienced cognitive psychotherapist and uses CBT and other clinical skills along side it to help manage and facilitate positive change.

Matthew is also one of only 40 Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) consultants in England. EMDR is a proven and recommended treatment for post traumatic stress disorder which can develop from childhood trauma, road traffic accidents, war trauma and other adverse life events, allowing individuals to recover from these experiences and move forward with their lives.

In addition Matthew is trained in Neuro Linguistic Programming, Motivational Interviewing, Hypnosis, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Life Coaching and provides Clinical Supervision. He is also the clinical director of the York Stress & Trauma Centre.

Matthew is accredited with the BABCP and UKCP as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and is also accredited with the EMDR UK & Ireland Association as a EMDR Consultant, he is also a member of the NMC.
